Even though the weather is still hot here in Kelowna, the fall season is fast approaching. Autumn brings so much beauty in itself, with bright maple leaves that fall and cover our yards with blankets of red.

Though, with the cooler weather comes a slightly altered pool maintenance routine. Here’s how you should adjust your pool maintenance routine this upcoming season:

pool maintenance
Vacuum Your Pool Regularly

When the fall season comes, you can expect more and more debris to end up in your pool.

Oftentimes, you can find critters, dirt, and leaves piled up at the bottom.

Because of this, you’ll want to vacuum your pool as regularly as every week. This ensures that your pool is sparkling clean for swimming.

Another reason why you’ll want to vacuum fairly often is because leaves (especially red maples) can stain your liner.

To prevent as much leaves and debris from falling into your pool during the autumn season, keep your pool covered.

Adjust the Temperature

This upcoming season brings cooler weather, so if you’re planning to keep swimming, you’ll want to raise the temperature of your pool.

Many times, though, people choose to stop using their pools as work and school pick up speed. In this case, you can drop the temperature.

Although turning the heat down on your pool is a good way to save energy until you winterize, you don’t want to shut it off altogether. Make sure your pool water never drops below freezing or else you risk breaking the internal pipes.

Keep Up the Chemicals

If you plan on swimming into the fall, make sure you keep adding your regular maintenance chemicals. This means you should be keeping your chlorine up, your pH balanced, and all other chemicals in check.

But, if you plan on dropping the temperature, you don’t have to add as many chemicals as you’re used to.

Cold water doesn’t eat up chemicals quite as fast as warm water, so you can lighten up your regular maintenance routine.

Make sure you always keep your chlorine in check, as well as your pH levels.
