Everybody hates getting algae in their swimming pool. Having algae typically means you’re going to have to spend time and money cleaning it up. So, this summer, spare yourself the hassle by preventing algae blooms altogether. Do these preventative measures to ensure you don’t see green in your pool this summer:

Get Sanitizer in Your Water
Having a stable level of sanitizer in your water is crucial for keeping your pool clean and algae-free. Chlorine sanitizes your water and kills off all the unwanted bacteria and particles that creep into your water from surrounding areas.
Without a stable 2-4ppm of chlorine in your water at all times, you risk getting algae because there’s not enough sanitizer to ward off organics.
But when the sun is beaming down on your pool for days on end and lots of people are swimming, the chlorine in your water drops quickly. To keep a stable level of chlorine in your water, make sure you always have pucks in your skimmer or have your chlorine generator turned up.
After everyone’s finished swimming, shock your water with Aqua Super Shock to clean up any unwanted bacteria in the water.
Use an Algaecide
Using an algaecide in your weekly maintenance routine is a great way to prevent algae.
Aqua Wham-o is a liquid chemical that bursts the algae cells before they have the chance to bloom. Using this chemical in conjunction with chlorine is the best way to stop algae.
Clean Off Your Pool Accessories
If you’ve used your pool accessories (like floaties, brushes, vacuums, etc.) in algae infested waters, it’s possible that algae spores are still present on the equipment. In order to get rid of this, you’ll want to clean off all your equipment.
The best way to clean off your accessories and equipment is by using chlorinated water. Soak your accessories in a bin with the chlorinated water for 30 minutes so all the algae is killed off.
